TWC uses a 4 lesson approach to teach the basic windsurfing skills to newcomers. The 4 part lesson was developed by Bill Quantock in fall of 2005. Bill is an avid windsurfer, enthusiastic CYA Instructor and educator. The lessons (max 12 students per session) follow the CYA windsurf instruction guidelines. By taking this course you'll be windsurfing on your 1st day of lessons and over the following lessons learn many important safety guidelines and skills that will enhance your windsurfing experience.

Lessons can be pre-booked in groups of four lessons for a total cost of $80. . You must become a member to book lessons or a practice board - Youth 19 and under- $50, Single adult- $90, Family- $125 (see membership page for details).

Students select their own schedule, (one of each lesson 1, 2, 3, 4) booked in advance through the TWC website. Once booked, there is no refund for a lesson that is cancelled or missed by the student. If you are late for a lesson you may lose that lesson, as the lessons will start promptly as scheduled.

Practice sessions between lessons are encouraged; practice boards are $20 per session and can be pre-booked on the website. New for this season we are selling a package of 5 practice sessions for discounted rate of $75. If needed (once the 4 lessons are completed) additional lessons can also be bought for $20 per lesson.

Lessons and practice fees include board, sail, lifejacket and wetsuit (as seasonally needed). Students should bring their own pair of water shoes (we have a limited selection of sizes). If space permits, a few practice boards may be available on a first come first serve basis, up to 15 minutes after the start of lessons time (it is best to prebook).

Members may lose their sailing privileges if they don't follow the LTW rules, including staying within the limited boundaries.

For lessons and practice, please arrive 20 minutes before class/practice times to check in. Lessons start promptly. Late arrivals won't be accepted more than 15 minutes after the starting time of session Please bring a printed copy of confirmation of lesson registration and payment that is mailed to you when you sign up online.

The guiding principals for the learn to windsurf program are:

  • Safety first. Safety of yourself, Safety of others, Safety of equipment (yours and others).
  • Windsurf no farther than you can rescue yourself! Put your sail down and paddle back if needed.
  • Sail with a buddy. Keep an eye open for others that may require help and inform an instructor if needed.

There is a limited sailing area for the learn to windsurf program this year that keeps you closer to the instruction staff.

Semi-private Windsurfing lessons for members can be booked directly through any instructor:(scheduling, dependant on instructor availability), or by emailing the instructors who have offered to help with details of your request semi-private lessons General guidlines are as follows, 1 person $80, 2 for $110, 3 for $140, 4 for $160

Our CYA certified windsurf instructors will teach you all the necessary skills, from rigging through to windsurfing on the water. The participants should be in good health, be comfortable in the water and must wear a lifejacket and booties while on the water. The lessons are part classroom, simulator on land as well as on the water where you practice the skills taught. The lesson materials can be found online at: www.learntowindsurf.com/twc_lessons Please download the lesson material 1-4 for home review. Four lessons are usually adequate for learning the basic skills needed to start enjoying the sport.

Upon the completion of the 4 lessons please book a practice session for a short on water skills test and written quiz which will be reviewed by the instructor to ensure that you have a firm grasp of the skills taught. Once these tests are completed successfully, you will receive a Passport to Windsurf card. With this card you can book additional time on a practice board for $20 per session (same cost as lessons).

TWC practice boards are for use within the practice windsurfing boundaries. The use of these boards are made available for an additional season beyond the year you acquire your passport to practice card. By the end of a practice season a student is usually ready to buy more challenging equipment. Some enthusiastic students buy their own equipment within a month of learning how to windsurf. It is expected that a practice session student has the skills needed to rig, get themselves out safely onto the water and back. You must wear your lifejacket at all times while taking lessons or using a TWC practice board.

A student can book an additional set of 4 lessons if desired to hone the skills needed for this exhilarating sport. We encourage students to practice the skills taught between lessons if they can find the time and a practice session slot available. We teach lessons regardless of the weather conditions, some of the best sailing can often be in the rain.

Practice sessions are held every day at the same times as lessons. Practice boards are available on a first booked first reserved basis(so book early as we are limited to 12 boards per session).

The cost for a practice sessions is $20 for single session or $75 for 5 sessions. Please bring your own wet-suit booties if you can as we have limited selection of water shoes available.

The lesson/practice season starts on beginning of June and finishes around the end of September, check the schedule for exact details. Wednesdays are only for practice boards, booked either for Wednesday Night Race.

The fun-race starts at 6 PM sharp on the water by the committee boat. We encourage all members to try this fun race that hones your skills and challenges yourself against the course. The race is followed by a pay as you go BBQ open to all at our clubhouse.

We look forward to enjoying another great summer on the water with you at the Toronto Windsurfing Club, your windsurfing connection in the heart of the city.

Happy windsurfing!
